Family-based immigration

Current U.S. law allows for individuals who are either U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent Residents to petition to have certain family members admitted to the United States.


Academic Students

The "F" visa is for academic studies. An F1 visa is issued to students who are attending an academic program or English Language Program.   These visa have important restrictions concerning the amount and type of employment that a client can accept.


Violence against Women Act (VAWA)

 VAWA is a means for battered and abused spouses (and certain parents and children) to obtain a green card without the cooperation of the U.S. citizen or permanent resident relative who is abusing them.

In the United States, Asylum is a discretionary form of protective status that may be granted to those who are fleeing persecution in its various forms in home country.

Waivers, or pardons for when there has been an immigration law violation, are an important tool in the practice of immigration law.  Being able to obtained a waiver often marks the difference between an individual being permitted to remain in the United States or having to leave the country.


 

Fiancee of U.S. Citizen

 A K-1 visa is a visa issued to the fiancé or fiancée of a United States citizen to enter the United States. A K-1 visa requires a foreigner to marry his or her U.S. citizen petitioner within 90 days of entry, or depart the United States.

Citizenship

U.S. citizenship may be obtained either at birth or through a process called naturalization. Persons born outside of the U.S. may acquire U.S. citizenship under certain specific circumstances.


Temporary Protected Status

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a status given to eligible nationals of designated countries affected by armed conflict, natural disasters, or some other extraordinary and temporary condition that prevents the national from returning safely to home country.  These grants of this temporary status usually last between 6 to 18 months.


Religious Workers

The R1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows religious workers (ministers and persons working in the religious vocation or occupation) to work in the U.S. for a period up to 5 years and eventually apply for a green card for permanent residence.


Athletes/Entertainers & other extraordinary ability

P visa is a type of temporary U.S. employment visa granted to alien athletes, artists, and entertainers, and their spouses and children.
